Against the Wind

Do you ever feel like giving up and giving in? Sometimes life can really get to us, and we are tempted to stop striving. Yet perseverance is a virtue. Jesus’ brother James tells us that the one who perseveres will be blessed in what he does. Sticking to the task when the labor gets hard is part of what made up the character of Christ, and thus, the character of the Christian, too.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind. First, if you’re living counter to our sinful culture, you’re going to experience some rough spots. Rubbing the fur of a cat the wrong way usually isn’t pleasant for you or the cat, and swimming against the current is hard. So it is when you do right in a wrong-way world.

Second, God is always there, even when life gets hard. “But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere.” He will lead us in the way that we should go. All we have to do is meekly follow.

That’s something to think about.
