During my lunch break I walked to a nearby grocery store to pick up a few items. It was a bright, sunny day, and unusually warm for December. At the front door to the supermarket was a bell ringer, a man about my age, lightly bundled against the chill and trying to stay out of the shade to keep warm.
As I approached him and placed a couple of dollars in the shiny red kettle, he made some polite comment about the lovely weather. I responded, “It is a really nice day, especially if you’re standing in the Son.” I paused and looked at him to see if he would catch my double meaning: he did. With a twinkle in his eye he looked directly at me and a knowing smile passed between us.
I went into the store and did my business. As I was leaving I tossed a wave in his direction and said, “Have a great day!” He nodded and replied, “In the Son.”
That’s something to think about.
